“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’ “
Matthew 28:18-20
Great Valley Presbyterian Church is dedicated to spreading the Gospel, not only throughout the United States, but also throughout the world. Our church currently provides financial support to twenty-eight evangelical organizations and twenty-eight individual missionaries who are working in eighteen countries around the world. Members of the church also have the opportunity to get personally involved in short term missions in the United States and abroad. Members and youth groups have traveled to Alaska, Amsterdam, China, Haiti, France, Kenya, Peru, Tanzania, and Guatemala. At least 35% of our church budget supports missions and evangelism to our community and world.
Great Valley Presbyterian Church holds a Missions Conference each year where the congregation can meet many of the missionaries we support. The week-long conference features many opportunities for attendees to learn about how God has been working through the missionaries’ lives, and how to become more involved in God’s plan.
Throughout the year visiting missionaries, or missionaries home on leave, are provided opportunities to update the congregation during Sunday Morning Service, Sunday Evening Service, or at the Missionary Society Meeting.
Our “Sister Church” program partners us with a church in Cance, Haiti. We have the privilege of sponsoring over 100 children in the church-affiliated school and have made several trips there to get a chance to know and serve our brothers and sisters there. Each October, we participate in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, providing gift-filled shoeboxes for children around the world. Local missions include daily “bread runs” and food basket deliveries by members of the congregation at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
We have an active involvement throughout the year with Good Works, a home repair ministry that helps older people in our community to make their homes safe, warm, and dry. We also support through donations and volunteers, a local crisis pregnancy center, a shelter for unwed mothers and a men’s shelter in Coatesville, PA.
