millen-familyToday’s Speaker, Alec Millen, a Great Valley missionary since 2006, loves Africa and is grateful for the opportunity he has had to make an impact for Christ there. The last nine years of his life have been “crazy,” preparing for overseas service and living in Uganda and Tanzania with his wife, Tammy, and their young family, but there has been great joy in being God’s ambassador there. While in Uganda, Alec served with a Wycliffe Bible Translators team which was translating the Bible into five Sudanese languages. They had to return to the US to meet the requirements of the agency through which their son Benjamin was adopted, and while stateside, Alec worked as a missionary recruiter on college campuses.
They moved to Tanzania in early 2009 to reach out to the Muslim Rangi people group with a two-pronged ministry to meet their physical need (pure drinking water) and their spiritual need (living water only Christ can bring). The stress of life in Tanzania and its toll on the family led them to return to the States, though Alec plans to return to Africa twice a year so his ministry among the Rangi people group can continue. Alec presently devotes most of his time to MissionsFest-Lancaster, an organization seeking to network and mobilize local congregations for greater effectiveness in world missions.
Alec is married to Tammy Lynn, daughter of Great Valley members, Steve and Donni Lynn. They have 3 children, Chelsea, Amber and Benjamin.
