About the Event
You can choose from two classes for this round of electives (click "read more" for full descriptions):
Making Disciples
Led by Dave McDonald
We know from our reading of Matthew 28:19 that Jesus has called us as his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. As a church we “exist to glorify God by enabling people to become fully devoted followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
In this class we will be looking into God’s Word together to learn more about what it means to make disciples as well as discussing some ways God can use us to enable people to become more “fully devoted followers of Jesus.” Some of the topics we will be studying from the Bible and discussing together are:
- Why Make Disciples?
- What is a Disciple?
- How are Disciples made?
We will be using the book The Vine Project by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne as a resource. Please join us each week as we grow together in our understanding of God’s Word and seek to encourage and help one another to apply what we have learned as devoted followers of Jesus.
The Book of Ruth
Led by Paul Reader
The book of Ruth offers us a unique perspective on life in Israel after the Exodus and before rise of Saul, David, and the monarchy. Set in the time of the judges, Ruth invites us to take an in-depth look at a broken world, which is yet ruled by the redeeming faithful Israelite God of steadfast love - YHWH!
We will discuss the text and context of Ruth, asking what it meant to its original audience and to us today. We’ll also be using Paul Miller’s book, A Loving Life to help us reflect on and engage our ever loyal God in our own lives right now. It’s not required to attend the class, but please contact Paul Reader (preader@gvpres.org) if you’d like to order a copy for yourself ($10.50 per copy).
