Learning from the Early Martyrs

Martyrdom has been part of Christian history from its earliest days until today. Starting with some heroes of the faith from before Jesus’ birth and focusing attention on the first few centuries of Christian history, we’ll be exploring what we can learn from those who gave their lives for Christ. We’ll meet some famous early Christian martyrs and see how they shaped Christian history; discover how the church handled those who recanted their faith, and study how the Church incorporated martyrdom into people’s lives once the period of persecution ended. 

Through all of this, we’ll pay attention to ways we can live faithfully whether we’re being persecuted or living in freedom, using our ancestors in the faith as teachers and mentors. The class…
