Learning from the Early Martyrs
Led by Sandy Haney
Martyrdom has been part of Christian history from its earliest days until today. Starting with some heroes of the faith from before Jesus’ birth and focusing attention on the first few centuries of Christian history, we’ll be exploring what we can learn from those who gave their lives for Christ. We’ll meet some famous early Christian martyrs and see how they shaped Christian history; discover how the church handled those who recanted their faith, and study how the Church incorporated martyrdom into people’s lives once the period of persecution ended.
Through all of this, we’ll pay attention to ways we can live faithfully whether we’re being persecuted or living in freedom, using our ancestors in the faith as teachers and mentors. The class will be primarily lecture (no preparation needed) with time for questions and some discussion.
Understanding the Old Testament Part 2 – I Samuel to Song of Solomon
Ted Wray and guest teachers
Join us in our ongoing discovery of how the Old Testament points to and sets the stage for Christ, the Living Word. Continuing to use Henrietta Mears book What the Bible is All About, we will study one Old Testament book each week, discovering the relevance of God's word to us today. This course should be of value no matter where you are in your journey of faith, and will be taught by Ted Wray and various Great Valley members.
God's Kingdom: The Storyline of the Bible
Led by Bob Scott
There's no doubt Scripture's supreme subject is Jesus Christ, who alone provides mankind with its only hope of escaping God's wrath! But to what end? Is salvation, which God has provided through Christ, part of a bigger all-encompassing program?
The answer we will present in this study is: yes – God, the sovereign creator King, in His great love, is committed to reestablishing his Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We’ll see how all biblical content fits within eight stages of kingdom progression, starting with the Pattern of the Kingdom (Eden) and ending with the Perfected Kingdom (New Creation). Join us as we unwrap the overarching big picture of what the King has revealed!
