About the Event
You can choose from two classes for this round of electives:
The Parables of Jesus
Led by Pastor Paul E. Toms (Evangelical Presbyterian Pastor, Great Valley Interim Pastor, and well known good teacher!)
Jesus' parables have been studied, discussed, interpreted and dissected for centuries. Are they “sermon illustrations” to teach us what God is like? Are they “earthly stories with heavenly meaning?”
Join us as we consider some of the lesser known of these parables, and discover what the Lord has for us in each of them. Perhaps we shall see “that the external is the mirror in which we may behold the internal and the spiritual.”
Peacemakers: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict
Led by June Appell (Professional Mediator) and Jim Shackleton (Loves this Subject!)
Conflict … it is part of every person’s life that is reading this. The Bible teaches that conflict resolution attitudes and skills are a significant aspect of growing as a disciple of Jesus. God has provided a way for us to overcome our innate weakness as peacemakers and learn to respond to conflict constructively. By applying scriptural/gospel principles during time of conflict, we are able to view the conflict as an opportunity to glorify God, serve others, and grow to be more like Christ. The primary focus of this elective will be on how God can help you as an individual Christ-follower to throw off worldly ideas about resolving conflict and become a true peacemaker.
This elective uses Peacemaker Ministries (peacemaker.training/about/) concepts to equip and assist Christ-followers to respond to conflict biblically. We’ll combine teaching with real world examples during class time.
